Riders’ Rest| Ruakākā

Riders’ Rest  Ruakākā has three separate new architecturally designed pods situated on top of the hill overlooking the Bream Bay coastline.  The locality is a perfect and easy spot to find; just 2kms off State Highway 1 and an easy 1.5 hrs from Auckland, so a great place to stay for a weekend away from the city.

Only 1.5 kms from the Ruakākā township and 12 kms from Waipu and 30 minutes from Whangarei, we are surrounded by great cafes; restaurants and pubs.  To save you putting your riding gear back on to go out for dinner (if you don’t want to cook yourselves); your hosts will drop you off to one of the local eateries.   

Each of the three spaces ‘The Studio ', ‘The Cabin’ and ‘The Nest’ have been creatively designed to provide privacy during your stay whilst also capturing the splendid coastal view where you can gauge the time by the sunrise and the sunset. Riders’ Rest Ruakākā is ideal for travelling solo or with a group where you can stay one night or have as a base to explore the amazing gravel and sealed roads in the north.  Its locality makes it ideal for guests to use Riders’ Rest as a base when riding around the north, whether it is to the top - Cape Reinga or for day rides where you can visit either coasts and return home to relax at this quiet location.

MEET YOUR HOSTS

Carolyn & Kel

Kel and Carolyn are motorcycle enthusiasts with extensive experience riding throughout New Zealand, Asia, Canada and Alaska, India and Himalayas and throughout Europe. 

They established MCANZ to provide an affordable option for motorcyclists to travel around Aotearoa NZ, staying at places which have been recommended by fellow motorcyclists and offered by motorcyclists or motorcycle friendly hosts.  Their touring experiences have led them to organise tours for friends to Europe, so during your stay, feel free to find out more about their tours.

THE STUDIO

Whether you are riding on an adventure solo or in a group, if you are seeking somewhere to relax after your ride with a magnificent sea view, you are sure to enjoy your stay.

THE CABIN

SLEEPS: 2-3
One Bedroom and Lounge with ensuite - Queen Size bed and Eco Couch which can be converted into a double bed for an extra person.

The Cabin is a one bedroom space with a Queen Size bed, ensuite, lounge and outside kitchen. 

You also have access to the glorious outside shower and bath and in the winter time you can fire up the indoor kent where you can dry your riding clothes and boots.

On the deck outside The Cabin and The Nest is a large macrocarpa table we refer to as “the Game of Thrones table”.  Relax after a ride and enjoy a drink while taking in the view.

THE NEST

One Bedroom with ensuite - Super King Size bed (which can be converted into two King singles).

Perched high to capture the morning sunrise and views down the Bream Bay coastline, The Nest is a one bedroom pod with a King Size bed, ensuite along with a kitchenette for making that morning coffee or refreshing tea. 

As mentioned below, you also have access to the outside shower and bath and the outside kitchen can be made available upon request.
