Country Home | Pakaraka | Far North
Pakaraka Country Home is located in the perfect spot for exploring the Far North. Opononi and the Hokianga harbour are approximately one hour west. Cape Reinga is 3 hours north by road or along 90 Mile Beach (tide dependent). Kerikeri, Paihia and the Bay of Islands are both 20 minutes to the east. Other places worth a visit are Ahipara (the start of 90 Mile Beach) , Doubtless Bay and Cable Bay. There is a great mix of coastal and inland roads with scenery that is well worth a photo or two. The Russell loop and Rawene loop which both include a short vehicle ferry ride are also worth a trip.
You can base yourselves here and easily spend 3 - 5 days exploring the region. Carl has in depth local knowledge and is able to suggest a variety of day trips that take you on sealed and/or unsealed roads. Carl and Julie are more than happy to ride with you and show you around.
If you are interested in other activities such as cycling, kayaking and walking they can provide equipment for hire and deliver you to start points. Although they are on Highway 1, they are down a long driveway and people always comment on the tranquillity and relaxed feel of the property.
Cost: Self contained unit $120 | Cabin $80 | Campsite $20pp
MEET YOUR HOSTS
Julie & Carl
Carl and Julie live an active lifestyle in the Bay of Islands. They enjoy any opportunity to get out on their bikes and have a range to choose from: Moto Guzzi Brevas 750, V11 and V12, Moto Guzzi Griso, Ducati Scrambler, Ducati S4RR Monster, BMW 1150R & a Honda Dominator and are members of the Italian Motorcycle Owner’s Club (IMOC) and attend all the Tattley Rappet’s rallies held around New Zealand.
They also enjoy getting out on their boat or in their kayaks for fishing trips. Bicycles are also in the shed for trips along the cycle trail if you want to stay a few days and take a break from motorcycling. They maintain a lifestyle block which keeps them busy with free range chickens and a lovely home orchard.
Carl has a range of motorcycles that he will hire on a short term basis or will offer a sell and buy back scheme. He also will do motorcycle recovery (if you found yourselves in Northland and need a friendly bloke to help you out). Have a chat with Carl and Julie about this.
