Cathy and Alan offer a home stay style of accommodation providing 2 beautifully presented bedrooms with a lovely modern bathroom that is shared with the hosts.

Their home is set in the countryside with great views of the sea, only 7 minutes to Tākaka township and 3 minutes to Pohara Beach, and there are lots of cafes and restaurants close by. They are happy to drive guests to a local restaurant in Pohara for dinner.

Join these two intrepid motorcycle travellers in their lovely home where you can enjoy the comforts of home whilst chatting with these very interesting motorcyclists who have travelled extensively throughout northern India, Kyrgyzstan, Italy and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Getting To Clifton | Golden Bay

From Christchurch: Head up the centre of the South Island through the beautiful Lewis Pass, turn off up the Motueka Valley at Kohatu Junction then at Motueka head west over the Takaka Hill 800m high; a motorcyclist’s delight with 25kms of awesome curves, down the valley to Takaka town then east towards Pohara where you’ll find Clifton Rd.

From Picton: Head west to Nelson city, keep going to Motueka then hit the 365 twisties of the Takaka Hill, down the valley to Takaka and 7kms to Clifton Rd on the road to Pohara.

What Golden Bay has to Offer

Alan and Cathy would encourage you to stay in Golden Bay for at least 2 nights so you can explore the diverse area from the golden sands of Tata beach in the east to the sand dunes and arches at Wharariki beach and the famous Farewell Spit in the west (110km return ride from Clifton ) and south down the Aorere valley to Bainham.

For the more adventurous there are some great gravel rides to the Cobb Valley, Totaranui, Aorere Goldfields and Anatori, Golden Bay’s very own west coast. Alan and Cathy would happily ride with you and show you these places.

MEET YOUR HOSTS

Cathy & Alan

Cathy and Alan are motorcycle enthusiasts who really enjoy the company of other motorcyclists. Alan has been riding all his life and Cathy for the last 10 years.

Alan is a retired electrician and still a jack of all trades. Cathy has worked in tourism and natural health and both enjoy their small property with extensive fruit trees and gardens.

They enjoy adventure riding as well as road touring. In their bike stable they have 2 Suzuki DR 650’s (1 each ); a Moto Guzzi V85TT (for 2up adventure touring), Cathy has a Moto Guzzi V7, Alan a Laverda SF750GT, Moto Guzzi T5 and T3 850’s and a MG V7 in reconstruction.

Alan has a full workshop and does all his own motorcycle maintenance, repairs and tyre changing.

YES they do have room to store more bikes out of the rain.

They have just spent July 2024 in the Indian Himalayas riding Royal Enfield Bullet 500’s on an 18 day tour which was an amazing trip.
